Velociraptor Sculpt (Jurassic Park and The Lost World)

More sculpting practice, this time I wanted to do a stylised version of the raptors from the first two Jurassic Park films. I still added a lot of muscle and skin detail but not a photo-realistic amount, I wanted to keep things simple like my Compy I made previously. I also tried using the posing tools in ZBrush and didn't have a great time with them, will need to get some more experience with those. Polypaint is just a simple texture pass, don't take it too seriously.

Might do a Spinosaurus or Pteranodon next, if I'm feeling crazy.

Yes I know it's technically a Deinonychus or Utahraptor, but this is based off the Jurassic Park versions which were incorrectly called "velociraptor".

Female (left, brown), posed (untextured, middle), and male (right, tiger stripes). More details on each variant down below!

Textures made with a simple polypaint pass inside of ZBrush, nothing super detailed or complex.

Untextured default pose. I tried to add a lot of the major wrinkles and muscle shapes, but didn't want to make all of the tiny little details and instead keep it a little bit simple.

Female raptor 3/4 view. Most prominently seen in the first Jurassic Park, also briefly featured in The Lost World among the mostly male raptors.

Posed and untextured version, made with the Transpose master in ZBrush. Unfortunately it didn't save in a proper format so I could no longer transfer this pose to the higher-res textured versions, so I've left it untextured.

Definitely some geometry issues present in this pose, but it was just a quick experiment with the posing tools inside of ZBrush. A lot of the subtle muscle detail is gone, because I had to keep smoothing the mesh to fix errors.

Obviously this topology isn't ready for rigging, just used for high detailed sculpting and poly paint.

Same pose as above transferred to the male variant. Wasn't very happy with it, found the controls really unintuitive and had to constantly smooth out the geometry. Will need more practice.
