Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Props

Hi-res versions - https://imgur.com/a/LAjaM8r

This is a collection of various props and assets seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (1994, SEGA). Since they aren't unique to just one zone, I made this their own collection.

The assets seen include Item Boxes (or monitors), Springs (red and yellow variants), spikes, Rings, all seven Chaos Emeralds and a Star Post (checkpoint marker). All of these assets were designed to be as faithful as possible to the original game sprites without going overboard on texturing since it isn't my speciality. I decided to stick with what I could achieve in Maya without having to do any manual painting in other programs.

I made custom materials for the Sonic & Knuckles rigs, but they were originally created by TheBlueBlur, check out his work here! https://gumroad.com/imeda3d

Full view of all the assorted assets. Everything in this shot was created from scratch by me. I would like to go back and make a few more at some point, like the end-of-stage Animal Capsules and Sign Posts.

A fun little alternate angle of Sonic admiring a Speed Shoes Item Box. I made custom materials for TheBlueBlur's Classic Sonic rig (https://gumroad.com/imeda3d#AZGHj)

Knuckles wants the Chaos Emeralds back! Maybe if he jumped off the spring he'd reach them easier. I also made custom materials for Knuckles, but the original rig was by TheBlueBlur (https://gumroad.com/imeda3d#FjRiK)

All of the various Item Box designs - only ones missing are the 1-Up Boxes and Eggman monitors, along with palette variants for the Invincibility as it currently uses Sonic's blue tint on the edges. These renders were WIP and are a little noisy.

Some other WIP renders from the process. I probably could have made the Spring a bit shinier to get that white highlight seen in the game sprites. I wanted to make the Chaos Emeralds much prettier but had to settle for a more simple material for now.

This was the piece I made for the thumbnail that I spent far too much time on.

Wireframe with (most) objects on smooth preview. The spikes and Chaos Emeralds didn't need to be smoothed so they look the same.

Wireframe with normal topology. You'll probably notice how the Item Boxes have a few more loops than needed, this was to avoid having to do proper texturing so I could instead assign different materials face by face. Obviously I wouldn't do this normally!

Low poly wireframe of the Item Box symbols. The icon for the Flame Shield was the most annoying and could definitely be better, but for this small project it's fine.
